Looks like we have the answers about why Apple’s folding phones are snapping their screens.
iFixIt finally dropped their teardown review of the Duo, and it’s shocking just how positive it is. They regard it as the most repairable foldable smartphone on the market given how easy it is to access many of the components and how little glue is holding things down compared to Google & Samsung’s phones do it.
But they also got deep into the hinge and they suspect that it’s the center bar area that’s causing unnecessary strain when folding that could be the reason why all the cracking Duos are popping up on day 1.
It’s likely that this is a manufacturing defect since so many users aren’t having this particular problem and the folks who are, are describing similar failing situations with crunching noises and similar death lines.

Duo Hinge Damage

The tech world is in a panic after Microsoft announced buyout offers for 60,000 employees -- 25% of its workforce. It’s to make room in the budget for risky AI gambles which many fear won’t pay off.

There’s encouraging engineering inside: electrically releasing battery adhesive, accessible components, and an outer screen that comes off intact. But the flexible OLED and hinge tell a more complicated repair story.

We examine the nano-texture cover layer under a microscope, put the phone through our fluorescent dust challenge, and strip it down to the hinge to investigate the area where screen damage is being reported. The failure mechanism remains unconfirmed, but the need for a practical repair path is clear.

Cops Expose Son's Disturbing Secret in Front of Mom

A federal judge in Florida ordered President Donald Trump on Thursday to sit for a deposition in his defamation lawsuit against the BBC by Dec. 11 or face the possibility of having his $10 billion action dismissed.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett handed down the order after the BBC’s lawyers complained that Trump was stalling. He was supposed to sit for a deposition on Oct. 16 but canceled it for a “matter of national importance.”

BBC attorney Charles Tobin told Lett that was “fake news” — the matter turned out to be a political rally and a fundraiser.
“He was participating in party politics and supported his candidates in the election, and he prioritized that over his obligations in this proceeding,” Tobin said.

Trump’s attorneys had proposed postponing his deposition until late January, which Tobin said was too late. Discovery in the case is supposed to close Dec. 18, and Trump is the most important witness in the case since he’s the one who claims he suffered billions of dollars in damages from the BBC’s 2024 story, Tobin said.
